Daniel - Matthew Macfadyen

Matthew Macfadyen’s feature film credits include Ben Elton’s Maybe Baby, Enigma for director Michael Apted, The Reckoning, In My Father’s Den and a breakout role in Joe Wright’s award-winning Pride and Prejudice, for which Macfadyen was acclaimed for his portrayal of Mr. Darrcy opposite Kiera Knightley. He will next be seen in Incendiary with Ewan McGregor.

Born in Norfolk in 1974, Macfadyen attended schools in England, Scotland and Indonesia before being educated at a boarding school in Leicestershire, England. At the age of 17 he won a place at RADA (the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) in London.

His first professional engagement was in The Duchess of Malfi for the touring theatre company Cheek by Jowl, where he appeared in London’s West End, New York, Bogota and Moscow. He followed this with two world tours playing Demetrius in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the Royal Shakespeare Company and Benedick in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing for Cheek By Jowl. He then returned to the RSC to appear in School for Scandal.

The success of Macfadyen’s stage work led to him being cast in Peter Kosminsky’s multi award-winning film for TV, Warriors. The film received a BAFTA Best Drama, an RTS Award and the Prix Italia and Macfadyen himself received an RTS nomination in the Best Actor category.

Other notable TV dramas include, Perfect Strangers (Almost Strangers in the United States) for celebrated writer/director Stephen Poliakoff; the BAFTA award-winning serial The Way We Live Now, The Project for Peter Kosminsky and the BAFTA award-winning spy drama Spooks, which airs in the US on A&E under the title MI5.
