Ripper Street: Matthew Macfadyen interview with NY Daily News

Matthew Macfadyen has been interviewed for his latest role in Ripper Street, which begins this Saturday on BBCA, by New York Daily News.

Ripper Street: Victorian Sex and Violence Is gRIPPING according to Matthew Macfadyen

Matthew Macfadyen spoke to TV Biz, stating that the grittyness of Ripper Street is part of the charm of the show.

“I think people are fascinated by Victorian attitudes towards sex and society. And back then in the East End there was enormous poverty.

“Actually, it was the Ripper murders that brought to light the dire poverty in the East End. They showed them up to a greater audience.”

Ripper Street: Charlene McKenna responds to Ripper Street's Gore Accusations

Actress Charlene McKenna plays Rose on Ripper Street and spoke to the Herald about comments saying the show is too gory or violent. 

"I think some people were shocked at how grim it is," Charlene told the Herald.

"They would come up to me and say 'God, that's very graphic', but I was like 'Hello, it's called Ripper Street!'

"It's a very dark series, and of course there is a lot of bloodshed and scenes that aren't nice to watch, but that is the nature of the show and we had a lot of fun filming."
