Ripper Street: The Times Review

The Times has reviewed the first series and finale of Ripper Street and among the review had the following comments:

The first season of the odd thing-unto-itself drama Ripper Street came to a triumphant close last night in a cracking episode that was uncharacteristic only in the neatness of its conclusion.

Deservedly, it will have one [a second series]

The series has its faults but it has wit and conviction. Above all it has Macfadyen, who is terrific.

4/5 stars.

Our leading tortured soul of course, is Detective Inspector Reid, Lord of the Brood.

The three simultaneous stories which were interwoven into the episode created a thrilling finale.

Ripper Street is a great Sunday night cop show, it’s engaging with three really interesting leads.

Finally, we will not be getting series two of Ripper Street until 2014. In the meantime, you may want to consider buying the DVD/Blu-ray

Amazon US available for purchase March 12th (yes, it is before the UK will see the DVD release, at least for now). Be aware that BBC America had cut out a few scenes from the UK version. It is unclear if the US DVD's are uncut or not.

Amazon UK available for purchase on March 18th.
