Downtime tends to involve helping the kids look after the family’s brood of chickens. ‘They’re very sweet and they don’t bite. They wanted a dog, really, but I said, “Let’s see how we go with chickens.”

My husband and I bought a house and moved in a week before the news hit that we were going into a recession. One day it will be ours, but we have to work very hard for it. Matthew was about to go to India for a job and they pulled it, with two weeks to go. It keeps you on your toes.
