More Atho-licious reviews of The Three Musketeers

It's now official that The Three Musketeers has opened in Germany, and several of our forum members have travelled far and wide to watch the movie.  Here are some snippets from their posts in the forum (either the review or three musketeers threads):

First Darcylicious Review of The Three Musketeers in 3D

Thanks to Arco, we know have our first Matthew Macfadyen-centric review of the Three Musketeers in 3D.  Arco was lucky enough to win tickets to a sneak preview of 3M. In her own words:

And what can i say - it is a humorous, fantastic, smashing adventure film.

The filming locations, the costumes are wonderful and especially the swords fight scenes are extraordinary good.

Great performances of Waltz - Cardinal Richelieu (superb), Porthos (very funny), the king (very tragical and naïve character), and of course MM [Matthew Macfadyen] (the film begins with him)!

MM is the leader of the 3M and he only is a little bit fatherlike to D´Artagnan.  He has most of the speaking parts, is sometimes very humorous, but also a little bit melancholic - perfect role for MM!

Only his sword fight scene is in slow motion - wow - very athletic and powerful.

Yes, some of us fans do look at his footwear whenever he is caught in public or onscreen.  What can we say, we're fans.  Arco had this to say about Matthew Macfadyen and some of his trademark gestures as well as his footwear:

There are two big charming smiles and many great eyebrowsex moments and especially for "boots fetish friends" – his boots are in front of the camera in a special moment.

And finally, to sum it up:

Great movie, have fun [watching it]!

Thank you so much for this early review!  You'll be reading more from other Darcylicians in the coming days!

Critic.de Review of Three Musketeers

I haven't (yet) posted many of the German reviews as it's difficult for English readers.  However, forum members, Doris and Marina have shared a review from critic.de which had the following quote:

Still remains the question, what it is, that's worth fighting for in a modernised story? The answer is coming from Athos, when D'Artagnan has to decide between his adored Constance and the jewellery: "Go and fight for love! France has to take care for itself."

(quick translation by Doris)

Die Drei Musketieres opens in Germany tomorrow.

Three Musketeers Photos and Reviews

The German Facebook page for The Three Musketeers (Die Drei Musketiere's) have posted some new photos. (Thank you cellisticone!)  Many of the photos include Matthew Macfadyen as Athos, including the lovely image below:

Also, marina has found several early reviews of the film (all in German, though).  This reviewer didn't like the film, calling it a pallid ensemble (translation via google). "The story is told in ancient costumes and also a modern twist, but that does not do the work well".

And: "The Musketeers (Matthew MacFadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans) with their fight scenes are so busy that the role of design is not much left over."

However, Cinestar had the following to say (also via google translate: "densely packed with action, witty screenplay ideas, and visually stunning camera settings"

Three Musketeers (Die Drei Musketiere's) opens in Germany on September 1 and worldwide sometime in October.
