About Darcylicious
Following the release of Pride & Prejudice 2005, a lot of fans of the film met on the IMDb message boards. Who can forget the really long threads discussing the origins of music from the trailers....and the often repeated question about when the DVD would be released...ahhh memories....
Soon it became frustrating not to be able to share any images there and so one kind member started a forum here . It was lovely, along with P&P fans from Live Journal, we were able to share images, screencaps and various photoshop creations as well as indulge in a passion for all things P&P. Unfortunately the server at that forum was not able to keep up with the serious pic spamming that took place and a temporary residence was offered by Alicepire at the forum home of Australian band Killing Heidi. The temporary home became permanent when it became clear that the KH server was able to let us post as many images as possible without problems ( or so we thought)!
The Pemberworth name came about from an amalgamation of Pemberley and Chatsworth (where Pemberley was located in the film)....a purely mythical location where P&P fans and Killing Heidi fans could meet. The forum developed into a great resource for creative minds, with some fantastic help available for those who wanted to learn photoshop, making video clips, web design and any other new creative skill.
The image collecting, making and sharing continued and began to concentrate mainly on all things to do with Mr Darcy - the wonderful actor Matthew Macfadyen. In fact it wasn't long before galleries were needed to host everything.
Cubbie866 and kls010 decided to buy some webspace together to host the galleries...interesting project since they live on oppsite sides of the Atlantic and had never done anything remotely like it before....! The webspace then needed a name...initially it was going to be Pemberworth and although the domain name had been purchased, it was going to take too long to move it to the new webserver. Another name was needed...and it was an easy choice really since everything to do with Mr Darcy was described as darcylicious in the Pemberworth Forum.
So now we had the Pemberworth Forum and Galleries at darcylicious.com!
The galleries and forum needed a webpage to link them both. What started was a very basic page, our first ever web design...here , progressing via a lot of improvements to the current layout you see. We needed a way to keep all our collected information about Matthew Macfadyen from the forum, in the one easy to access location!
You used to see at the top of the links 2 forums. One iwas Pemberworth. Freeforums who host Pemberworth have regular downtimes when the forums become inaccessible. To keep members chatting during any downtime , Cubbie866 and kls010 set up the backup forum. It would have been a total pain to try and move all the contents of the main Pemberworth Forum to the back up forum, so unless Freeforums disappeared altogether, the plan was to keep 2 going!
Finally Freeforums did disappear for a long time. Many communities accross the net lost their home sadly. Because we had the backup forum we started using it more and it was eventually agreed to remain at the back-up forum, since it is hosted on our webserver.
To join the galleries, we decided to insist that potential members also join the Darcylicious forum with the same registration name. Partly in the hope of making new friends at Darcylicious, and also to prevent programming robots from randomly trying to join. We have about 20 spam registrations every day! After 1 week, if we dont see names in both locations, we delete the relevant member information. We did try and merge the memberships once to make it easier....and then we lost the entire galleries and spent 3 days trying to get it all back!
The main website is always going to be a work in progress, and the site owners are always happy to take on board new ideas and suggestions for improvements! So please get in touch!
Who knew one film and one actor could do all this!??
